Bouncing with Wine, by Amy Ramage

Claire made it sound quite glamorous when she asked, but what we thought she really meant, was could Lucinda and I be bouncers for the evening? The evening to which I am referring of course is our Annual & Portfolio En Primer tasting at The Westbury Hotel in Mayfair.  We didn’t hesitate in agreeing to Claire’s request. Whatever she wanted us to do, we knew it would be a fabulous night and were only too happy to be a part of it.

With aspirations of searching handbags, breaking up fights, turning people away for wearing the wrong shoes and generally being fearsome and burly, we narrowly avoided the black suits and headsets, found our best dresses and heels and headed to The Westbury. We arrived at 6:15pm and as we found our station it quickly became apparent that Claire had been telling the truth all along about the glamour; the room was gorgeous and everyone looked so smart.

With people flooding in from 6:30pm, we were down to business extremely quickly, meeting and greeting and generally being charming (noted on more than one feedback form I might add!).  It wasn’t difficult; not only was the location fantastic but the guests were too, they listened patiently to the information we had to tell them, when it was quite obvious all they really wanted to do was get stuck into tasting the fine array of wines.

The guests streamed in throughout the evening and it was good to see so many familiar faces as well as some new ones. There was no handbag searches but we were asked to look after a walking stick, help people find their friends, fill out order forms and for our phone numbers!

The event was such a success it continued on much later than planned, but when people did start to leave, it was so nice that they stopped to say what a lovely evening they had had. All in all quite an amazing event and although I am quite happy with the job I have, if I do need a career change, bouncing with wine and heels would certainly be up there!
