We sent teams to both SITT Spring events, in Manchester on Monday 27th February and London on Wednesday 1st March, and had a marvelous time showcasing our selected wines to visitors, both familiar and new. Outstanding results for Perez Pascuas in recent round of highly esteemed Spanish awards

We're delighted to report that, in continuation of an array of excellent scores, Vina Pedrosa our esteemed Ribera del Duero producer has been awarded an array of top points in two recent awards - including a very enviable 98 and 99 points from the Guia de Vinos Gourmets. The 2014s will be released to market very soon.

In the annual Wines from Spain Awards 2016 Ceremony, the Cepa Gallivan 2014 from Pedrosa, and the Pedrosa Crianza 2014 were award-winning wines. 

New releases and fantastic scores for the Kings of Ribera, Viña Pedrosa

We have just heard that Viña Pedrosa has released the highly anticipated and award-winning new vintages of their Reserva (2011) and Gran Reserva (2009) wines. This family just keeps on producing stunning Ribera wines, year on year...!

Vina Pedrosa awared top scores at Prowein

We're happy to announce that two of Pedrosas wines have been chosen amongst the TOP 100 of Spanish wines at Prowein. Both wines were awarded the maximum of 3 Toros.

They are Vina Pedrosa Crianza 2011 and Vina Pedrosa La Navilla 2010

We recently took part in September's Wines of Rioja trade tasting at the Royal Horticultural Halls. In attendance with team Bancroft was Elena Sanchez from Bodegas Altanza and Luis Alberto Martinez from Remirez de Ganuza, who enjoyed extra exposure thanks to being selected as one of the wines used in Sarah Jane Evans MW's seminar on Guiding consumers through the Rioja classifications.

Roel talks to us about his Manium Crianza

Last week we welcomed Roel from Export Iberia into town.

As part of his visit, Bancroft's Sophie and Rob caught up with him over lunch at Bravas Tapas in St Katherine's Dock:

How long have you worked with Export Iberia?

I've been Brand Ambassador for Export Iberia since March 2013. It's quite a funny story of how I came to be here. One day Export Iberia's founder Rafael visited a winery searching for the right grapes to make his wines with just after harvest. In the winery's office there was a photo on the wall that I'd sent them from when I was working with the family there some years before - it was of us having a BBQ and eating 'migas' (like giant breadcrumbs, a traditional spanish tapa) after the harvest. One thing lead to another and here I am now!

Export Iberia's philosophy immediately interested me. We use top quality, healthy grapes bought locally and then work with small, family-owned wineries to produce wines with an international appeal. This means that we succeed in vinifying the grapes within the specific DO according to our international vision while maintaining the identity of the terroir within each bottle made.

Last week, hot on positive heels from the London Wine Fair, Bancroft headed along to the much coveted 100 point Parker tasting at Hedonism Wines in Mayfair to present our Remirez de Ganuza Gran Reserva 2004.

After a gap of 25 years there was quite a crowd waiting on tenterhooks outside the shop for Robert, internationally renowned wine-critic and owner of the Wine Advocate, all eager to taste the 8 100 point wines on show and to meet the man himself.

Joined by Jose Utrasun and Luis Alberto Martinez from the winery, based in Rioja Alavesa, over 200 happy punters came to taste our wine - and with the tokens stacking up, we proved to be one of the most popular of the evening by far:

Lucky Tuesday Tasting at Ametsa with Arzak Instruction & Bodegas Remirez de Ganuza

We were very fortunate to have Luis over from Bodegas Remirez de Ganuza, to talk us through all their wines, including a few bottles and magnums of older vintages sent from their cellar - hence the lucky epithet. Without talking about every wine we tasted, I would like to focus on the mini-vertical of their Reserva wine, which is the lynch-pin of their range. Their wines are aged for longer than the statutory period at each level, so their Reserva could be labelled as a Gran Reserva (one for the purists, out there!).

Over the summer a few of our much loved colleagues left for pastures new, so it was decided that we should all have a good catch up over some fine wines. Lunch was to be organised at one of Bancroft’s favourite haunts – The Kitchen on Tower Bridge Road. The idea was for each person to bring along a bottle “to impress”.....so the ex-staff members were invited, the table was booked and the food pre-ordered to avoid disappointment.
