Parker Rates our new Spanish agency, Bodegas Altanza

Robert Parker has recently reviewed the wines from our new Spanish winery, Bodegas Altanza, that we launched at our recent Autumn trade tasting.

Here are the tasting notes and scores from Robert Parker on the Bodegas Altanza wines which we now stock:

2004 Altanza Reserva Especial. The 2004 Altanza Reserva Especial was sourced from the Montecillo Vineyard. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak followed by 18 months of aging. This single vineyard offering exhibits an already complex bouquet of toasty oak, graphite, exotic spices, incense, violets, and blackberry. Smooth, layered, and plush, this lengthy, impressive offering is an excellent expression of Rioja’s great 2004 vintage.
Score: (93)

2005 Lealtanza Reserva. The 2005 Lealtanza Reserva spent 18 months in French oak and 18 months in bottle prior to release. Purple in color (typical of the 2005 vintage), brooding, and dense, it gives up a nose of pain grille, pencil lead, Asian spices, lavender, and assorted black fruits. Large-scaled and powerful on the palate, it boasts outstanding depth, volume, and length. It will amply reward 5-6 years of cellaring and deliver prime drinking from 2016 to 2025.
Score: (91+)

2007 Edulis Crianza. The 2007 Edulis Crianza spent 12 months in French and American oak. Cedar, Asian spices, violets, floral notes, and assorted red and black fruits lead to an already complex, relatively forward, nicely proportioned Crianza that that can be enjoyed through 2019 if not longer.
Score: (89)
