Six wines from Hartenberg Estate gain 90 Points or more from Neal Martin

Neal Martin has recently reviewed the wines from our Stellenbosch agency, Hartenberg Estate with 6 wines gaining 90 points or more!

Hartenberg Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 : “The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon sees 10% whole berries and is aged in French oak for 18 months (60% new). It has a well-defined bouquet of wild strawberry, smoke and sandalwood that displays fine focus. The palate is well-balanced with a succulent entry, fleshy red berries infused with soy and black olive, leading to a nicely composed finish. Very fine. Drink now-2017.” 90 Points, Neal Martin

Hartenberg Estate Cabernet Sauvignon / Shiraz 2010: “The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz sees 12 months in third and fourth fill oak barrels. It offers attractive, plump raspberry and wild strawberry fruit on the nose, the oak playing a background role. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, soft tannins and plenty of sweet red cherry and raspberry fruit. The finish offers a hint of white pepper and it lingers nicely in the mouth. This is a commendable red that should give plenty of early drinking pleasure. Drink now-2017.” 90 Points, Neal Martin

Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay 2010 : “The 2010 Chardonnay sees no skin contact and is barrel-fermented, after which it spends 11 months in wood. It has a straight-laced bouquet that takes time to unfold; offering light dried apricot, spice and dried pineapple scents interlaced with wood resin. The palate is well-balanced with a finely tuned opening, a crisp line of acidity and an understated but intense finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Very fine. Drink now-2016.” 90 Points, Neal Martin

Hartenberg Estate Merlot 2009 : “Matured for 17 months in 70% new oak, the 2009 Merlot has a ripe nose of black plum, mulberry and vanilla that is pure and lush. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, laden with raspberry preserve and wild strawberry. It is nicely composed with a precise, fresh finish that slips down the throat with ease. Drink now-2015.” 90 Points, Neal Martin

Hartenberg Estate Shiraz 2009: “The 2009 Shiraz underwent 60% malolactic fermentation in barrel and the same percentage raised in new oak, the remainder second fill. It has a high-toned bouquet with dark chocolate infusing the sappy red fruit. The palate is rounded and slightly chewy on the entry with slightly lower acidity lending this a plumpness and good weight on the finish. What it does not possess is quite the complexity and nuance of its peers, yet it certainly appears to be aging well in bottle. Drink now-2017.” 90 Points, Neal Martin

Hartenberg Estate The Eleanor Chardonnay 2010: “The 2010 The Eleanor Chardonnay is aged on the fine lees and sees 12 months in French oak. The nose is lacking a little focus at first, although it gains harmony with aeration with tropical fruit, mango and a smidge of white chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp opening: plenty of mango, grapefruit and spice flavors combing very well, though it just trails off a little toward the finish. Fine. Drink now-2018.” 91 Points, Neal Martin
