Anthony Barton Dinner - the pictures

Last night we were honoured to host a dinner with Anthony Barton at Home House, which as always set the scene for a truly spectacular evening.

The Bancroft team arrived early to decant over 30 bottles of wine. Martin and Alex kept us entertained as they recited The Life of Brian in its entirety.

As the guests started to arrive we enjoyed a glass of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2000, a wonderful wine that is starting to show signs of its age (but only just).

Anthony gave us a detailed history of his family (you should read “Le Saga de Barton” to fully understand it!) and the châteaux. He has been at the helm of Châteaux Léoville and Langoa Barton for almost 30 years now after he inherited it from his uncle. Anthony still maintains his philosophy that wines should exude quality and finesse. The wines definitely confirmed this.

The first flight of wines, Langoa 2004, Léoville-Barton 2001 and Langoa 1999, were matched with a tartar of tuna with sesame oil.

The second flight of wines, Langoa Barton 2005, Léoville 2000 and Léoville 1986, were matched with a delicious Cannon of Herdwick Lamb with dauphinois potatoes, roasted figs, lavender and honey.

Thank you Anthony and Home House.
Detailed tasting notes on all the wines to follow.
