Wild South visit and José, Bermondsey Street

We had a visit from Simon Swa from Wild South this morning. He was here to see our wine buyer, Neil Hurley, but as he was my second boss in the wine trade (over 10 years ago) and now lives in New Zealand, I thought it only right to take him to José, our favourite local.

As always José was fantastic. We enjoyed a number of dishes but the highlights for us were the prawns in garlic and chilli, washed down with our own Godello and the fantastic slow cooked pig cheeks with a chunky glass of the stunning Manium Crianza.

As we sat there happily munching away we struck up conversation with our neighbour about the Degas exhibition at the Royal Academy. This Bermondsey local gave us a thorough briefing of the academy and turned out to be none another than Norman Ackroyd, artist/printer and member of the Royal Academy. Turns out he has had a studio just off Bermondsey Street for 30 yrs!

We continued chatting and conversation quickly changed to the delights of José’s food and the changes which have occurred on the street over the last five years. We also commented just how lucky we are to have the best Tapas in London on our doorsteps!
