Day One at the LIWF, by Cindy Bonillo

The London International Wine Fair is always an important date in the Bancroft events calendar. Every year the UK wine trade flocks to the The Excel Centre for three days of tasting and networking. This year the Bancroft stand welcomed double the number of clients as last year and we had a great show.

Day One and the (London) Bancroft team arrived at the crack of dawn to set up the stand, open the bottles, taste through the wines and welcome the winemakers. We were joined by 12 producers from across our portfolio: Jaime Lamoliatte from Julio Bouchon (Chile), Soledad from Bodegas Luigi Bosca (Argentina), Heleen from Hartenberg (South Africa), Bernard and Cathering from Domaine Billaud Simon (Chablis), Jean-Baptiste from Champagne René Geoffroy, Juan from Viña Pedrosa (Ribera del Duero), David from Cederberg (South Africa) and Trinidad from Bodegas LAN (Rioja). We also exhibited the wines from Hay Shed Hill (Margaret River), Schild Estate (Barossa Valley), Wild South (New Zealand) and Marjan Simcic (Slovenia).

This year we also decided to set up one more area on the stand to represent the new wines for 2012.

We showcased 16 new wines including Malvasias from Vina Matošević (Croatia), Loup es-tu Blanc from Domaine de l’Hortus, a range of dry wines from Mas Amiel, a fabulous range from Château Viranel in Saint-Chinian, wines from Château Moulin Caresse in Bergerac and Château de Cèdre. Visitors could help themselves to a glass of the new wines and Ambre Delorme from Domaine de La Mordorée and myself were in charge of answering questions on any of the wines.
