Marjan Simčič's superb sweet wine, Leonardo 2006, has been awarded a Gold medal and the Slovenian Sweet over £15 Trophy in the recent Decanter World Wine Awards 2013.
The Leonardo, named after Marjan's son, is a very special wine made from the Slovenian indigenous Ribolla grape variety. These grapes are left to hang on the vines in the warm Autumn weather. After a scrupulous grape selection, the grapes are put in wooden crates and are left to dry out until the following April. There is no influence from Botrytis cinerea.
