Schild Estate‘s iconic Moorooroo Shiraz has been awarded GOLD at the 2013 Syrah Du Monde International Wine Competition. The Gold medal was one of only 5 awarded to Australia, competing against 423 wines across 28 countries.
“To win Gold at such a prestigious wine show against the best Shiraz in the world is an absolute honour”, says Casey Mohr, General Manager at Schild Estate. “The Moorooroo is the most prestigious of our range and probably the least known of all our wines. This award will help generate International awareness and respect for our iconic wine.
Moorooroo Shiraz is made from the ancient vines over 165 years old, they are irreplaceable. Only four rows of these precious vines remain and Schild Estate recognises the importance of preserving this rare and historical site, for the whole Barossa Valley Region.
“The ancient vines produce very little fruit so the most we can ever make is about 200 cases” said Scott Hazeldine, Chief Winemaker. “The Moorooroo vines concentrate the characteristics of the single vineyard into a wine of rare complexity, at the same time displaying intensity of character with a subtlety and elegancy only found in wines of the very highest quality”
The 2008 Moorooroo shows colours of dark purple and black hues, the bouquet is full and layered where ripe, concentrated blueberry fruit aromas dance around more savoury notes of cinnamon spice and Christmas cake, worn leather and black olives.
In a day of accolades for Schild Estate, the 2009 Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz also received a Silver Medal in the same wine show. Consistently recognized and highly awarded, the Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz shines again on the world stage.
