Mas Amiel Plaisir Blanc 2011, by Sean Burbridge

For something different, this is a really expressive and individual wine...when opened, a truly funky set of complex aromatics demand your immediate attention...figs dominate but dried apricot, overripe peach, toasted almonds and floral aspects are all in the mixing pot here.

The palate is also upfront and equally as expressive, it almost Viognier esque. It is textured with dried apricot and figs reappearing. For a wine with so much oomph, low acidity and 14% alcohol, there is a hint of heat on the finish but it is so delightfully clean, this is forgiven. For me, you cannot beat individuality and this delivers with the addition of real pleasure. It is a food wine which will be a great match with pork and fruit tarts or could match fuller flavoured chicken dishes. A really interesting vino!
