Team review: Chateau de la Negly, Vin des Pays d’Oc, Oppidum Chardonnay 2012

Sean Burbridge one of our Account Managers reviews the latest offering from Chateau de La Negly.

Chateau de la Negly, Vin des Pays d’Oc, Oppidum Chardonnay 2012

This smartly packaged wine is a new addition to the Chateau de la Negly range and unusually for this property, it is a single varietal.

This Chardonnay is pale green in appearance but the nose is expressive and very giving; there are notes of ripe fruit with pear drops, pineapple chunks and background hints of white flowers. In the mouth it is medium to full bodied, richly textured and unctuous with pear drops and lemon bonbon adding to a lovely peachiness and an exotic mouth feel.

Given the almost over-ripe nature of the wine, it manages to retain lovely freshness and finishes with great balance. This could almost be described as a New World styled Chardonnay but made in the South of France.

It is certainly a very enjoyable wine!
