With
a medal haul at the International Wine Challenge and mentions in the best 100
Australian Wines, Ray Jordan’s Top 100 reds and the Aug/Sept Wine Companion,
Hay Shed Hill and its sister brand Pitchfork are the new high fliers on the
Australian Wine scene and rightly so.
International
Wine Challenge 2014
Hay Shed Hill put in a sterling
performance at this year’s wine challenge and came home weighed down by their
silverware with both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay being ranked among
some of the best wines in the world.

Best
100 Australian Wines
UK Wine
writer and judge, Matthew Jukes gave the Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
glowing praise:
“My featured wine is a cracker.
Stunning value from the prestigious turf of Willyabrup, in the heart of
Margaret River, this is a sumptuous wine without the buccaneering tannins and
with a more immediate appeal which deserves to win it loads of fans. While I
realise that people like to buy wine to lay down, you’ve got to drink something
while you are twiddling your thumbs and I suggest that you start here. This is
benchmark Margaret River Cabernet with an early nineties price tag – Hoorah.”
He
added equal praise for the Pitchfork Margaret River Shiraz despite his initial
regional scepticism:
"Before I start, 2011
Pitchfork Margaret River Shiraz is worth a quick note because I am fairly vocal
about my dislike of Margaret River Shiraz but here’s a wine which looks amazing
in the glass and it is a few quid cheaper than HSH, too. I love to be proved
wrong.”
Ray
Jordan’s Top 100 Reds
Adding
to the Hay Shed Hill success Ray Jordan named sister range Pitchfork Cabernet
Merlot 2012 as one of his top 100 red wines giving it 90/100 points.
‘A well-made, value-for-money
wine. Minty chocolate aromas infused with blackberry and plum. The
palate is soft and with a plump merlot middle and a gradual tightening of the
cabernet to the finish. 90/100.’
James
Halliday in Wine Companion
With
an impressive 95 point rating for the Hay Shed Hill Block 8 Cabernet Franc
Halliday’s tasting note highlights the truly delicious nature of a first rate
wine:
“Light,
bright crimson: the bouquet has the hallmark perfume of violets and cigar box,
the vibrantly fresh red berries of the palate sitting on a bed of silk and
velvet tannins all the way through to a long finish. Deserves its claim to be
one of the best examples of the variety in Australia.”
Congratulations Hay Shed Hill. May the success long continue!
