Halliday gives Hay Shed Hill 5 star status

The 2013 Edition of James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion hit the shelves last month.  Once again the Hay Shed Hill & Pitchfork wines rated very well. Of the fourteen wines that Hay Shed Hill entered into the companion, twelve were rated 90 points or above.  These fantastic results cemented their Red Five Star Winery Rating for another year.

The full reviews and James Halliday’s tasting notes for the wines that Bancroft import are below:

96 POINTS - HAY SHED HILL CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2010: Strong purple-crimson; estate-grown, open-fermented, and 18 months in French oak are the bones; the flesh is beautifully juicy and succulent red berry fruits finishing with fine tannins.

93 POINTS - HAY SHED HILL SHIRAZ TEMPRANILLO 2010: Strong, bright crimson; the percentage of tempranillo is not specified, but its contribution is obvious enough, especially on the tangy finish of the wine; it has bright cherry fruit, attractive French oak inputs, and excellent tannins.

93 POINTS - PITCHFORK CABERNET MERLOT 2010: Strong colour; the luscious array of red and black berry fruits on the bouquet and palate are an impressive opening stanza; the palate has considerable structure, deriving from maturation in oak barrels (no staves, no chips) closing with ripe, balanced tannins. Exceptional value.

92 POINTS - HAY SHED HILL CHARDONNAY 2011: Pale straw, green hue; a focused and fresh bouquet of nectarine and citrus blossom, showing plenty of vitality and vigour; lively on the palate, the zesty acidity is complemented by well handled new oak.

90 POINTS - PITCHFORK SHIRAZ 2010: Mid crimson; bright fresh red and blueberry, spice and charry oaky bouquet; the medium-bodied palate is rugged and full of wild thyme and fresh acidity; enjoy this in the full flush of youth for maximum enjoyment.
