A friendly French duo - two new wines to our list

Two brand new wines land into our stock this week from Chateau du Cedre in South West France:

'Blandine Le Blanc 2014' IGP Côtes du Lot and  'Marcel Malbec 2014IGP Côtes du Lot. In their quirky packaging and excellent value for money, these wines are set to be a sure fire hit with many of you.

Both Marcel and Blandine always had bright ideas and were considered visionaries in their time.

Marcel MALBEC left his native Belgium and cycled through France, settling in Vire-sur-Lot where he produced his first wine in 1892.

Blandine LE BLANC always took the time to do things right in the cellar and enjoyed watching her wines mature. Always at the height of fashion, Blandine enjoyed the finer things in life and liked to host and share her wines with friends.

When she met Marcel, she fell in love with this daredevil whose boots were as polished as his wines were.

Ahead of their time, they chose to live life together in the fast lane, working hand in glove to share their passion for their authentic French wines.

The 'Blandine Le Blanc 2014' IGP Côtes du Lot packs a punch at only £4.84, blending 60% Colombard with 40% Ugni-Blanc to create a tropical, aromatic white with spicy undertones.

Our new 'Marcel Malbec 2014' IGP Côtes du Lot is as pure as it gets, offering up lashings of plum and blackberry, and that velvety, soft, round mouthfeel that makes Malbec so seductive.

The packaging is fresh, lively and tells a tale of 'Blandine Le Blanc', a patient type who always took the time to do things right in the cellar and waited for her wines come into their own as they matured. 'Marcel Malbec', on the other hand, is a bit of a rogue who left his native Belgium to cycle through France before settling down in Lot. Here, he joined forces with his dear Blandine, creating wines of great power.

"The colour is bright, golden with greenish tints The nose is straightforward, slightly spicy and delicate. Crunchy and aromatic on the palate."

"Dark red colour. Very fruity nose, both powerful and elegant. Very round and soft on the palate with great fruit intensity."

The Domaine, Château du Cèdre
The Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s. Today Pascal and Jean-Marc have taken the helm at the domaine and revolutionised its winemaking process: they are certified both organic and biodynamic. They have 3 vineyards, the largest of which is 12.5 acres, and are blessed to have a stony calcareous clay soil called 'Tran' by the locals.

The Vintage, 2014

Early bud burst announced a precocious vintage last spring. Excellent weather conditions were favourable to flowering, suggesting a good upcoming harvest. June and July were wet, with an important number of rainy days. Summer finally began in the first days of August and lasted until the end of October, allowing optimum ripeness. After a very tense early summer, grapes were finally picked with a smile, in a relaxed working atmosphere.
