The Wig & Mitre is a fantastic little pub/restaurant in Lincoln that I have dealt with for many years. Although I love it when I visit the beautiful Lincoln, it does take a while to calm one’s nerves after having to put up with the tribulations of the A47 and then the dreaded A17 en route, where tractors and belligerent lorry drivers consider a short bit of dual carriageway is an ideal time to attempt to overtake each other with the difference in speed being 2mph!
Having survived the road last week I was delighted to attend Michael and Valarie Hope’s launch of their Wig & Mitre Wine Club. This club aims to link the pub/restaurant with their wine shop next door. The event was a huge success. Guests enjoyed the range of wines and their enthusiasm was infectious. They even got to enjoy a supper at the end of the day.
I showed the following wines:
Whites
Chardonnay, Pitchfork, Margaret River 2009 (Australia)
Albariño, Santiago Ruiz 2010 (Spain)
Chenin Blanc, Cederberg Private Cellars, Cederberg 2010 (South Africa)
Viognier, Finca La Linda, Luigi Bosca 2010 (Argentina)
Reds
Cabernet Shiraz, Hartenberg, Stellenbosch 2008 (South Africa)
