With a flurry of events to celebrate this
week we couldn’t think of anything more fitting than making a traditional and
delicious champagne our wine of the week. You aren’t going to find a better
excuse to raise a glass of the Medot Rose NV than the first birthday of our
future monarch, the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow or the finale
of the Tour de France. Alternatively join us at the London Bridge Open Kitchen
at the White Cube Gallery, Bermondsey tonight and buy it by the glass (for a
bargain £5) to indulge in with delicious food from the likes of Antico,
Pizarro, Brigade, Constancia and Village East.
Founded in 1899
by Jules Medot, and remaining in his family for seven generations, Champage
Medot has now been brought by the Lombard family group who themselves have a
long history in Champagne. This respect for tradition has been inherited by the
new owners with the traditional lutte raisonnee approach to viticulture being
employed. The wines are soft, easy drinking and universally appealing making
them the perfect house champagnes or pre dinner drink.

The Medot
Brut Rose is composed of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with 10% of the harvest
vinified in red. The colour is a vibrant, delicate pink. The nose offers lifted
notes of floral petals, with fresh cream, nougat biscuits, citrus and honey.
You can taste strawberry notes and red fruit flavours which give length to the
wine. Toast and hazelnut aromas contribute complexity, with a very fresh and
balanced end.

London centric friends who can’t make it to the white cube tonight why not try
this fantastic dessert idea and substitute the Prosecco for Medot Rose!
