Two new Spanish wineries for Bancroft

We are pleased to announce that we will be launching two new Spanish wineries at the SITT Autumn tasting and also at our trade tasting on the 25th September in our offices: Bodegas Gargalo in Monterrei and Carisma in Pirineos.

Bodegas Gargalo, D.O Monterrei
Bodegas Gargalo was founded in 1998 by the prominent fashion designer Roberto Verino in honor of his homeland and its great potential for winemaking. The winery is located in the Tamega River basin, a tributary of the Duero and has a Mediterranean/continental climate. The vines are located in the Monterrei Valley, on clay and slate soil. All grapes are hand harvested and manually selected at the winery. The winery produces high quality wines that reflect the nature of the soils and the surrounding environment.

Gargalo Albariño and Treixadura 2011: Pale straw in colour with green hues, this wine has an intense and aromatic nose of fresh flowers, citrus, peach, honey and rosemary. It has a crisp and fresh acidity that refreshes the palate.

Gargalo Godello 2011: Brilliant pale straw in colour with golden highlights, this wine has a fresh, floral aroma with citrus and tropical notes. Accents of fresh grass and honey with an excellent fruit expression. The palate is rounded with pear and apple notes and a long and persistent finish.

Carisma, D.O Pirineos
Carisma is named after the charismatic Carles Ribes Masana who first planted vines high up in the village Montanissell in 2008. Today, together with his brothers, the dream continues with a wine that bears his initials and in which his spirit lives on. The vines are positioned at 1,200 metres above sea level; making them the highest in Spain

Carisma Riesling Gewürztraminer 2011:  The style of the wine is distinctly northern European Alsatian like and is capable of ageing for several years in bottle.
