Addition of Croatian producer Matošević to the Bancroft portfolio

Bancroft Wines is delighted to announce they are now the exclusive UK agent for Matošević, one of the most highly regarded producers in Croatia.

The domaine is located in the Istria region of Croatia and is run by Ivica Matošević who started up the winery following a chance meeting with a viticulture professor. Ivica quickly became very passionate about wine and his domaine has gone from strength to strength. His first vintage was in 1996.

Ivica, as most producers in Istria, specialises in Malvasia which mainly comes from vineyards in the Buje area in the northwest of Istria.

The Alba Malvasia is made from 100% Malvasia and is fermented in stainless steel vats and aged on fine lees until January. Alba is a fresh and elegant wine with huge finesse. It has great minerality and fruit with a savoury herbal finish.

The Alba Barrique is from the same region as the unaged Alba, the Buje region, and is also made from 100% Malvasia. The winemaking philosophy is the same with minimum intervention and no skin contact. It is aged for 12 months on its lees in French Tronçais/Alliers oak barrels. This wine has beautiful poise and complexity with aromas of white blossom, peach and spice. It improves with age and can be aged for up to five years.

Malvasia Istriana Alba, Matošević, Croatia, 2010                RRP £14.50
Malvasia Istriana Barrique, Matošević, Croatia 2009           RRP £20.95
