2009 Schild Estate Shiraz flies Business Class with Emirates

Schild Estate Wines is delighted to reveal that Emirates Airlines will be pouring the 2009 Schild Estate Barossa Shiraz in its Business Class cabins, starting later this month.

The highly respected Dubai‐based airline is well known for its excellent catering and fine wine service. The 2009 Schild Estate Barossa Shiraz will be available on all flights to and from Australia, and will also be served in the carrier’s lounges on the east coast.

“We’re honoured to have been selected by Emirates, particularly for their increasingly popular Business Class cabin,” said Schild Estate General Manager Casey Mohr. “We’re always humbled by the praise given to the Schild Estate Barossa Shiraz, but this is without doubt one of the greatest endorsements we could receive for a wine.”

The 2009 Schild Estate Barossa Shiraz was awarded 92 points and a rating of “Outstanding” by Wine Spectator. Due to vintage conditions, the volume of fruit harvested in 2009 was considerably lower than in previous years, resulting in a much smaller blend of very high quality, and restricted availability.

“We have only limited stocks of the 2009 Schild Estate Barossa Shiraz, but partnering with an airline as prestigious as Emirates was such an exciting proposition that we made the decision to allow them an allocation,” said Mohr. “We’re mindful of the fact that, on an international carrier, we’re not just representing Schild Estate, but also the Barossa Valley and Australia as a whole – and we’re truly proud to do so.”

“Yield was down in 2009 but we were delighted with the results from our Shiraz blocks,” said Winemaker Scott Hazeldine. “Varietal characters developed well and acid was retained, resulting in a wine of real balance with lovely purity of fruit and depth of flavour.”
