2015 has been a bumper harvest for Bancroft Wines and its
growers, reaping golds and silvers left, right and centre at the Decanter World
Wine Awards, the International Wine Challenge and the Sommelier Wine Awards.
My personal pick of the crop would be Luigi Bosca’s Gala 1 2012. The “brooding nose of pain grille, tar,
black cherry, blackberry and licorice” has beguiled Jay Miller of The Wine
Advocate, awarding it 92 points, while the DWWA was charmed enough to give it a
Gold. My bottle is resting safe and soundly in the cellar until it reaches its
full potential – or until I give in and crack it open at dinner.
Elsewhere in the DWWA, Cederberg and David Nieuwoudt won
awards across the board. David at Cederberg and Ghost Corner, alongside Alex
and Tammy, have proven their mettle as winemakers for time and time again – and
have plenty of medals to show for it. We had the double pleasure of both
hosting Alex and Tammy at the LIWF last week and sampling their most recent
vintages.
