Once a year Dishoom organises a huge party for all their staff and families. On Monday we attended to man the wine bar, as summer intern Alice Brandon reports...
Myself, along with a few other lucky Bancroft staff, not
only spent a sunny Monday out of the office, but were fortunate enough to share
in Dishoom’s celebrations. Dishoom
hosted a Family Mela for their
staff and families celebrating both their commercial and charitable successes.
We also supplied: Touraine
Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Domaine de Mus Viognier 2015, and Wild South Sauvignon Blanc 2015.
Tasting the wines side-by-side provided the staff with the
opportunity to really taste the nuanced differences between Old World and New
World Sauvignon Blanc’s or the white peach softness of the Viognier to the
zippy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
For the reds, we contrasted a French Pinot Noir by Domaine de
Cabrials, 2015, with the formidable Italian Terre di Montelusa Primitivo, 2014.
The Pinot Noir proved a hit lightly chilled whilst the
Primitivo sustained those out for a richer red wine hit to match with the Birch
smoked Lamb on offer, perhaps.
For the Oenophiles out there we hosted a ‘guess the wine’
game. This saw us give a brief lesson on
how to taste wines according to the industry standard – from sight, smell and
then taste, mouthfeel and length. I am pleased to announce that nearly all staff
that took part guessed correctly and will shortly be receiving a courtesy
bottle of wine!
It was a fantastic day, a chance for us to talk to the
wonderful Dishoom staff and share in
the community feel. We are already
looking forward to next year!
